Hello, welcome, and thank you for your interest in Northern Colorado Pole Vault Academy! We are a competitive USATF track and field club that practices year round. We have the summer, fall, and winter indoor sessions as a part of the off season of track. With most of you starting the pole vault in high school, it is important we have enough time to cover all of the aspects of the vault. During this time we can have repetition, as well as learn important steps in the pole vault process to make exponential gains. Think of it as adding an extra 1-3 years of experience before starting again next spring. Please let me know if you have any younger siblings who would like to learn how to pole vault (ages 10+) This is the perfect time to begin.
What To Expect
Practices generally run from 5:30-7:30pm. Check our scheduling page. At the beginning of practice we take a warm up lap around the grass. We will provide most of the poles you need. You are welcome to bring your own. At the facility there will be two pits. You will learn how to work different parts of your jump by using different poles, different runs, and coaches will periodically pull you away to do some off of the pit drills.
Practices are held at Loveland High School (920 W 29 St, Loveland CO, 80538) or Thompson Valley High School depending on the season at 5:30pm-7:30pm. Weather reschedules will take place by either time change or date change the following day. Check the team app for updates.
Meets run just about every weekend on Saturdays. Track meets are a lot smaller and low pressure. The easiest way to get better is to go to practice, and attend meets! Meets are non mandatory but highly encouraged and expected. There are meets at the local/state level, but also at the national level. If this is something you want to pursue after high school, most colleges look at the marks you put up in the off season as well. There are many opportunities for travel
Meets Outside of Colorado
To compete out of state, you will need to be a member with current attendance, and there will be a travel fee attached to cover expenses such as pole implement airline fees, coaches travel, etc.
